Although not a true publication of HM Nautical Almanac Office, it does contain
significant contributions made by staff of this office both past and present.
This book provides an explanation of the astronomical principles and methods
of computation used in The Astronomical Almanac. It describes the
relevant terminology, notation and concepts of computational astronomy and
provides rigorous definitions and formulae.
The chapters were written by members of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, the United States Naval Observatory, HM Nautical Almanac Office and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and edited by Dr. P. Kenneth Seidelmann, formerly of the United States Naval Observatory.
A new edition of the this publication is in preparation. It is hoped that it will be published in the first half of 2012.
