Crescent Moon Visibility: Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr & Dhu al-Hijja 2021

• Ramadan – April 2021

Information relating to the sighting of the new crescent moon for April 2021 (Ramadan 1442 AH) is available here.

HMNAO predictions suggest that a telescopic sighting of the crescent moon is possible on Monday April 12th as is one using optical aid to find the crescent moon. Sightings are possible with the naked eye under excellent conditions on the same day from Central America and the eastern Pacific Ocean region and easy sightings are possible from the Hawaiian Islands and the central Pacific Ocean region to the east of the International Date Line. Naked-eye sightings are likely almost globally on Tuesday April 13th, Wednesday April 14th and Thursday April 15th.

• Eid al-Fitr – May 2021

Information relating to the sighting of the new crescent moon for May 2021 (Shawwal 1442 AH) is available here.

HMNAO predictions suggest that no sightings of the crescent moon are likely on Tuesday May 11th on a global basis. A telescopic sighting is possible on Wednesday May 12th from parts of the Middle East as is a sighting using optical aid to find the crescent moon from western parts of the Arabian peninsula. Sightings are possible with the naked eye under excellent conditions on the same day from from north-western Africa, Canada and northern central parts of South America. Easy sightings, again on the same day, are possible from most of the United States, the Caribbean region, Central America, the north-western part of South America and the eastern half of the Pacific Ocean region. Naked-eye sightings are likely almost globally on Thursday May 13th and Friday May 14th.

• Dhu al-Hijja – July 2021

Information relating to the sighting of the new crescent moon for July 2021 (Dhu al-Hijja 1442 AH) preceding Eid-al Adha is available here.

HMNAO predictions suggest that a telescopic sighting of the crescent moon is possible on Saturday July 10th as is a sighting using optical aid to find the crescent from northern central Africa. Sightings are possible with the naked eye under excellent conditions on the same day from most of the United States, most of Central America, the Caribbean region and north-western parts of South America. Easy sightings, again on the same day, are likely from Mexico and the eastern half of the Pacific Ocean region. Easy sightings of the crescent moon are likely on almost a global basis on Sunday July 11th, Monday July 12th and Tuesday July 13th.
