This map shows the location of the predicted first sighting of the new crescent moon using telescopic assistance for each of the thirteen lunations during 2014. Further information can be found in HMNAO Astronomical Information Sheet No. 103. For each lunation, the local date, the day of the week, the local mean time of sunset for the earliest sighting, the interval of time from sunset to moonset in minutes (the lag time), the longitude and latitude of the best place and the age of the new moon is given by clicking on a coloured pin. The "Time Unseen" gives the minimum time that the Moon remains invisible to the unaided eye. The occurrence of Ramadan is also noted where applicable.
